Paper joint tape is made from special-fibered paper with high tensile strength. It's mainly used to cover drywall joints because it's resistant to cracking, stretching, wrinkling and tearing. Furthermore, it's very durable and resistant to water damage. By using with drywall joint compound, it can make smooth surface for drywall panel joints, especially for interior corner treatment, it can provide much more stronger reinforcement than fiberglass mesh tape because glass fiber breaks easily after being folded.
